Abstract

Chronobiology aims to study the temporal characteristics of living matter, including the circadian rhythm. These, in turn, are biological rhythms that vary within twenty- four hours, which can be biological, physiological or behavioral events and can be regulated by external factors. Analysis of data in the bases of academic health articles: Scielo, Medline, Lilacs with the descriptors in Health Sciences (DeCS): Chronobiology, circadian rhythm and thyroid hormones, with articles from 2006 to 2020, in Portuguese and English. Where the eligibility criteria were considered, the original articles were clinical trials, case control, systematic review and meta- analysis. When evaluating the existing literature, it was found that: the pituitary thyro-stimulating hormone (TSH) secretion peak occurs between twenty-two hours (22:00) at night and four hours (4:00) in the morning, but there is not enough data to conclude a specific collection time for the thyroid exam. In this sense, it is advised that the collection be carried out in the morning, knowing that the concentration will be outside the peak of maximum plasma.
