Abstract

Consume meanings have been researched since the decade of the eighties. Among
the work in this field, McCracken’s study (1986) appears as one of the most
important because it gave to meaning the characteristic of mobility. The present
study is based upon the author’s model to analyze consumer meanings and evaluate
its construction process. To achieve this objective, bottled water was chosen as
study object. Through a qualitative-exploratory field research, in which was analyzed
advertising material from water brands and also semi-structured interviews with end
consumers, it was found the relationship between past experiences and current
