Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) has transformed various sectors by connecting physical devices to digital systems, yet it faces challenges related to accurate and continuous object identification. This article examines the potential of Wiliot, an innovative technology based on self-powered smart tags known as IoT Pixels, which harvest energy from ambient radio signals. Compared to traditional technologies such as RFID, NFC, and Beacons, Wiliot stands out for its low cost, scalability, battery-free design, and advanced sensing capabilities. The analysis highlights its advantages, limitations, and applications in sectors such as logistics, retail, healthcare, and smart cities, while also exploring its future potential with artificial intelligence and blockchain. It concludes that Wiliot represents a disruptive and sustainable solution to overcome technical and economic barriers in large-scale IoT adoption.
